OVS Founders Map Project
OVS Founders Map Project
We are happy to announce that the OVS History Committee has concluded its two-year project of identifying, on an Atlanta city map, early OVS members’ residences and businesses located on Atlanta’s Southside.
The map highlighting streets and houses bounded by Memorial Drive, Pryor Street, Bass Street, and Capitol Avenue is on display at OVS. Most of the OVS members who immigrated to Atlanta in the early 1900s thru the 1930s lived within this area. Houses on the streets where OVS members resided have been identified on the map. Also highlighted are the locations of synagogues and other edifices of note. An accompanying booklet contains the exact addresses of over 150 OVS members who arrived in Atlanta, beginning in1906. The booklet also contains the roster of OVS families in 1934.
These items are also currently available for research at the Breman Jewish Museum, the Atlanta History Center, and the History Department of Georgia State University.
You are invited to examine the map reproduced on glossy photographic paper and the accompanying booklet. If you would like a copy of these items, please place your order with our Executive Director, Adam Kofinas, in the OVS office. The price for the map and booklet is $28.
