Brit Milah and Brit Bat

Brit Milah

At OVS we are happy to celebrate your new son’s birth through a ברית מילה/Brit Milah. Most people are more familiar with the terminology of a bris which is an Ashkenazic pronunciation of the word ברית/brit. Here at OVS we use the Sephardic and Israeli pronunciation, ברית מילה/Brit Milah.

Baby Naming

At OVS, we are happy to celebrate your new daughter’s birth through שמחת בת/Simchat Bat or a ברית בת/Brit Bat. Both terms refer to innovative ceremonies Jewish communities have put together to welcome their daughters into the covenant in a celebratory manner. There are no time requirements for a שמחת/ברית בת but many people try to have it closer to birth so they can have a celebratory ceremony regardless if they have a boy or a girl. Traditionally, a Jewish baby girl is named at a service where the תורה/Torah is read, and this is also an option here at OVS.
